Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman Abraham Roman, was the 3rd daughter in their family. The young woman was just a child when her father, who was employed as an carnival barker, died. Her mother had to perform tasks such as waitressing and cleaning.
